Message-ID: Hi all Has anyone been flying this summer? its been very quiet on the email list. I'm very pleased to say that I have just completed my restricted endorsement for powered hang glider, down in Cornwall with Graham Phipps, a great tutor, and very generous chap. In fact it was through this email board that Nigel Murphy sold me his Rio and Booster kit, a great combination, thanks for that. I would now love to go flying in the local area but at the moment (for the next 13 flights at least) I officially need the presence of a power coach. What's your favourite beer, Nick? I guess you are the man I have to be nice to. What is the situation with managing suitable sites in the area? how many other power pilots are there locally, and is there a club to cover their needs. Does chilternflyers manage sites other than their one field? Should I start negotations with local farmers? Swindon (where I live) is broadly covered by tvhgc, but they don't list any power sites at all, as they are a hill club. I just wonder if its worth setting up a club (or sub-club) to help with powered pilots in the area, or if that has already been done. Thanks for your time, it would be good to get airborne again. If you're interested I've put some photos of my flights around cornwall on the web, (you're welcome to add them to the chilternflyers blog page if you like) http://picasaweb.google.com/BenedictFindlay Many thanks Ben Findlay From daven at 4boxmoor.freeserve.co.uk Wed Oct 1 21:05:14 2008 From: daven at 4boxmoor.freeserve.co.uk (David Napthine) Date: Wed, 1 Oct 2008 21:05:14 +0100 Subject: [Flyers] Powered Flying anyone? References: Message-ID: <3067D23F96624DF094EA4572D7A53117@DN> Hi Ben, I'm on the mailing list but have yet to fly with these blokes. To answer your question, I've flown virtually every week, often power (Rio + bug), but also had free flights at Dunstable, Mundsley and Corton, along with some winch flights last Sunday at Mendlesham.. For power flying we use Herts microlight club near St.Albans for which we have to pay ?30/month, but given lack of sites we will put up with that until we find a free site that is continuously available. The need for insurance at this site forced me into getting the rating which I have to confess, I had not bothered to do until then other than a couple of days intro at Lejair. Not sure if you are aware but Avian now offer more hefty sidewires for power flying if you feel the need to make it more bomb proof. Did the booster come with its own harness or is it easy to attatch to any harness? Some boring vids from me................... http://uk.youtube.com/results?search_query=davenapperz&search_type=&aq=f and some better ones from my chum who flies with me using a bug with a discovery....... http://uk.youtube.com/results?search_query=kaperic&search_type=&aq=f Hope we all get loads more flying Regards Dave N ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Wednesday, October 01, 2008 1:25 PM Subject: [Flyers] Powered Flying anyone? > > Hi all > > Has anyone been flying this summer? its been very quiet on the email list. > > I'm very pleased to say that I have just completed my restricted > endorsement > for powered hang glider, down in Cornwall with Graham Phipps, a great > tutor, > and very generous chap. Its an ambition of mine to fly round a hot air balloon! (amongst many others). I was hoping to go the route of chatting up enough local farmers to be able to use a variety of fields through the year. Certainly the microlight club route crossed my mind, but it seems a little over the top in some ways. With whom did you complete your rating? I need a power coach to finish mine off. (either that or several more days in Cornwall). Thanks for the heads-up on the side wires. I'll probably do that when they need replacing anyway, in a year or so. The booster needs its own harness (Solar Wings -The Edge), which has bolt holes in just the right place, and can be used as a very comfy free flight harness too. Since we're on the subject of video's, this was my warm up flight in cornwall. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=am3GuJ6Jy3A Thanks, and happy fying, Ben David Napthine writes: > Hi Ben, > > I'm on the mailing list but have yet to fly with these blokes. > > To answer your question, I've flown virtually every week, often power (Rio + > bug), but also had free flights at Dunstable, Mundsley and Corton, along > with some winch flights last Sunday at Mendlesham.. > > For power flying we use Herts microlight club near St.Albans for which we > have to pay ?30/month, but given lack of sites we will put up with that > until we find a free site that is continuously available.
